Crown Point was founded with a focused, ambitious vision: a single estate in the Happy Canyon AVA, the warmest and most Bordeaux-suited corner of the county, devoted to making world-class red wine. The vineyard is farmed meticulously, the production is small, and the wines are built for the cellar. This is the rare Santa Barbara estate that thinks in terms of decades, not vintages.

The wines

Crown Point is a Bordeaux estate, anchored by its estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux blends, joined by a small amount of Sauvignon Blanc. The reds are dark, structured, and powerful, with firm tannin and the capacity to age, a serious expression of warm-climate Santa Barbara fruit. These are limited, collector-minded wines.

What to drink it with

This is classic steakhouse Cabernet. Pour it with a well-marbled ribeye, a rack of lamb, or a dry-aged steak, where the wine’s firm tannin binds to the fat and protein and both come out softer and more generous. Give the wine air, and give the food some char, and the match takes care of itself.
