Flora Springs Winery sits in the heart of St. Helena, rooted in estate vineyards that have produced wine grapes since the late 1800s. Founded in 1978 by Jerry and Flora Komes, the winery built its reputation on two things: site-specific Napa Valley farming and wines that balance power with restraint. Today under new ownership by Jean-Charles Boisset and Gina Gallo, Flora Springs continues to honor that founding vision while looking forward to a new chapter in Napa Valley wine.
From Family Ranch to Napa Benchmark
When Jerry and Flora Komes stepped onto the St. Helena estate in search of a place to “kick off their boots,” they were not looking to build a wine empire. What they found was historic land, first planted to wine grapes in the late 1800s, and a connection to the Napa Valley that would define three generations of their family.
Flora Springs was formally established in 1978. The winery took its name from Flora Komes herself, a founder whose spirit has become inseparable from the winery’s identity. Under the Komes family, Flora Springs developed a reputation for Cabernet Sauvignon, the estate red blend Trilogy, and the estate white Soliloquy, wines that earned consistent critical praise and a devoted following across Napa Valley wine country.
Flora Springs founder Flora Komes believed that what you put into the land comes back to you in the wine. That philosophy has shaped every vintage from the first bottle in 1978 to the present day.

The anchor of the Flora Springs portfolio is Trilogy, the estate’s flagship Bordeaux-style red blend. Earning 96 points from leading critics, Trilogy combines the depth of the St. Helena estate with the structural elegance that defines the finest Napa Valley blends. Alongside it, the Awakening Cabernet Sauvignon earned a perfect 100-point score, making it one of the most decorated wines in Flora Springs’ history.
Soliloquy, the estate’s signature white, draws 94 points and showcases the versatility of the St. Helena terroir for white varieties. The portfolio also includes Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc, a textured and expressive white that reflects the Rutherford benchlands, as well as Vermentino, an uncommon variety for Napa that demonstrates the winery’s commitment to looking beyond the obvious. Food pairing follows the chemistry of the wines: the rich tannins of the Awakening Cabernet find balance against fatty proteins like braised short rib, where tannin binds to protein and fat softens the wine’s structure.
A New Chapter: Boisset and Gallo Partnership
Flora Springs recently entered new ownership with Jean-Charles Boisset and Gina Gallo taking the reins. The partnership brings together two of the wine world’s most recognizable family names with a mandate to amplify the Flora Springs portfolio and revitalize the St. Helena tasting experience.
Boisset, who has built a portfolio of Napa and Burgundy estates known for quality and hospitality, and Gallo, representing the wine family behind some of California’s most respected brands, bring considerable resources and vision to a winery with a distinguished 45-year track record. For fans of Flora Springs, the ownership change represents continuity of purpose with fresh energy behind it.
