Palate Match: The Tasting Room Quiz That Sells Wine Club Memberships

PALATE MATCH, BY THE FOUNDER OF POPULAR WINES

The Tasting Room Quiz Built to Sell Wine Club Memberships

A guest scans a code at your bar, answers a few quick questions about what they actually like to eat and drink, and gets a personalized order through your own tasting flight. They learn how to taste, rate each pour, and end with a recommendation built from their own reactions: a wine club tier, or bottles to take home. Every wine, every club tier, and every word of it is built from your list.

See it running on a real wine list

This is the actual build made for a Westlake Village winery, wired to their real bottles and prices. Take the quiz yourself below.

Why it works

Gamification, not gimmick

Turning a tasting into a short, personal quiz gives guests a reason to pay closer attention to what they are drinking, and a reason to share the result afterward. That is the same engagement mechanic behind loyalty programs and app onboarding flows across retail and hospitality, applied to a tasting bar instead of a checkout screen.

Why it helps your team

Takes the pressure off your pouring staff

On a packed Saturday, one staff member cannot give six tables a real, personalized explanation of every pour. A guest working through Palate Match on their own phone gets that explanation anyway, the tasting order, the how-to-taste primer, the pairing notes, without needing your busiest person to repeat it table by table. Staff still pour and still close the club conversation, they just are not the only source of the experience.

How to bring this to your winery

Every winery gets a proposal built around what they actually need

Pricing depends on scope, so this is quoted per winery rather than listed as a flat rate. Here is how most conversations start.

Common questions

Is this connected to any wine science, or is it a gimmick?
Some, honestly stated. The questions are about food and mood rather than wine directly, because food preference is a well documented proxy for wine preference. The matching itself runs on established wine and food pairing chemistry, tannin against fat, acidity against richness, sweetness against heat, rather than a clinically validated test.
Does it actually reduce staff workload, or just add another screen?
It shifts where the explanation comes from. Instead of a staff member repeating the same tasting notes at every table, the guest gets that explanation from their own phone at their own pace, especially useful when the room is full and staff attention is the scarce resource.
Does it work with our existing wine club tiers?
Yes. The recommendation logic is built around whatever club structure you already run.
Do we need a kiosk or tablet, or does this work on a guest phone?
It runs in any mobile browser, most commonly via a QR code at the tasting bar. A tablet on a stand works too if you would rather provide the device.
How is pricing decided?
It depends on scope: a standalone build, the full tool suite, a custom build, or an enterprise partnership that folds in SEO and AI Visibility. Send your current tasting flight and club structure through the get started page and you will get a proposal built around that.
